In compliance with Section 26 (1) of the National Civil Registration Act 2016, the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has released its Provisional Annual Report on Vital Events for the year ending 31st December 2023.
Births:
– A total of 235,373 live births were recorded, with 49% males and 51% females.
Stillbirths:
– There were 3,842 stillbirths, comprising 56% males and 44% females.
Deaths:
– 13,186 deaths were reported, with 55% males and 45% females.
– 28.8% of deaths occurred in the 60+ age group, followed by 28.1% in the 35-59 age group, 23.5% under fives, and 19.3% in the 5-34 age group.
Marriages:
– 834 marriages were registered, categorized into Christian (46.2%), Islamic (25.5%), Civil (16.7%), and Customary (11.6%).
– The median age at marriage was 36 for males and 29 for females.
Divorces:
– 41 divorce cases were registered, with Christian marriages constituting 39%, Islamic 34%, Civil 24%, and Customary 3%.
Adoptions:
– A total of 360 adoptions were recorded, with 43% males and 57% females.
– Notably, 37.8% of adoptions were in the 0-4 age group, 34.7% in the 13-17 age group, and 27.5% in the 5-12 age group.
