Sierra Leonean forward Momoh Kamara has been nominated for the prestigious Confederation of African Football (CAF) Young Player of the Year award for 2025.
At just 20 years old, Kamara made a landmark impact at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring four goals — including a hat-trick against Egypt — and becoming the first Sierra Leonean ever to finish as top scorer in a major CAF tournament.
His performance didn’t stop there. Kamara was included in the tournament’s Best XI of the group stage, and picked up both the Best Player and Top Scorer awards for that phase.
His two man-of-the-match displays helped drive his nation’s historic run at the competition.
The inclusion of Kamara on the shortlist of ten nominees — alongside rising talents from across Africa — highlights the increasing recognition of Sierra Leone’s young footballers and the growing respect for their achievements.
As the CAF Awards ceremony approaches later this year, all eyes will be on whether Kamara can convert his breakthrough campaign into continental silverware and further elevate his country’s standing in African football.
