October 14, 2023 – The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has issued a public notice to inform relevant educational stakeholders about the implementation of weekly School-Based Continuous Professional Development Sessions for Senior Secondary School Teachers.
This initiative aims to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary for interpreting and implementing the new Senior Secondary School (SSS) Curriculum and its Syllabuses.
To ensure a smooth transition to the new curriculum, schools have been allocated streams for the first cohort of pupils, pending the release of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. In preparation, Senior Secondary School Principals and selected Senior Teachers from all 16 districts have undergone comprehensive training to become trainers for the newly developed syllabi.
These trained trainers are currently stationed in district headquarter towns, where they are conducting training sessions for principals and senior teachers on the interpretation and implementation of the SSS syllabi.
It is expected that these trained principals and senior teachers will, in turn, conduct weekly Teacher Professional Development Sessions for teachers within their respective schools.
The schedule for these professional development sessions is as follows:
Session 1: October 19, 2023
Session 2: October 26, 2023
Session 3: November 2, 2023
Session 4: November 9, 2023
Session 5: November 16, 2023
Session 6: November 23, 2023
Attendance for these sessions must be meticulously recorded, including signed attendance records (both paper-based and online through Tangerine). All records and pictorial evidence should be submitted to the supervising School Quality Assurance Officer (SOAO), who will then present them to the Deputy Director of the respective districts. The Deputy Director will, in turn, forward the records to the School Quality Assurance, Monitoring, and Research (SQAMR) and Curriculum and Research Directorates.
