Limkokwing University’s young and talented student, James Momodu Dao Samba, has made headlines after winning the prestigious Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) competition on Friday, August 4, 2023.
This 21-year-old software engineering student has showcased his innovative skills by creating Sierra Leone’s first-ever 100% electric vehicle within an impressive nine-month timeframe.
James Samba’s groundbreaking electric car operates without traditional fuel, thanks to its ingenious self-sustaining generator that provides the necessary electricity for its functions. His achievement has garnered recognition for disrupting the traditional learning system of Sierra Leone, putting Limkokwing University at the forefront of innovation.
Expressing his gratitude on Facebook, Samba emphasized the significance of the OSVP National Grand Prize in their mission to create a more eco-friendly and sustainable future for Sierra Leone.
“With our electric vehicles and retrofitting services, we aim to combat air pollution, reduce fuel costs, and ensure accessibility for all, including persons with disabilities,” he stated.
With a vision to combat air pollution, reduce fuel costs, and promote accessibility, including for persons with disabilities, Samba’s electric vehicles and retrofitting services hold great promise for the country.
In the highly competitive OSVP competition, James Samba emerged as the winner, earning a cash reward of NLE 100,000 (approximately USD 5000). Introduced in 2019 by Orange Telecommunication, the yearly prize aims to support young innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone, offering funding, mentorship, and business growth opportunities.
James Samba will now represent Sierra Leone in the upcoming OSVP International Competition later this year.
