The Minster of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, was at the Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey, to attend the maiden meeting of the “Africa-US Presidential Forum on STEM and Business Education on the theme: Decade of African Digitalization-Higher STEM and Business Education for the Achievement of SDGs by 2030”
The Minister was representing the President, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio at the Forum, which is organized by the University in partnership with the Nekotech Center of Excellence, based in Ghana.
He received a non-collateral loan amount of $100 Million and scholarships worth $2.5 Million for Prep School and first degree holders in STEM/AI and Business, to pursue graduate studies in the USA, between 2024 and 2028.
This is part of the Work/Study component of a 5-year labour migration pilot project titled ‘Transfer2Transform (T2T), launched by the Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, in May 2021.
The project was launched in partnership with SOS Labour Ghana, an international recruitment and job placement organization; and aims at tackling the problems of illegal and uncoordinated labour migration in Sierra Leone. It has tree components; *‘Decent Work in Gulf States, the Diasporan National Service and the Graduate work-Study components’*.
Noting that the scholarship and loan opportunities could not have come at a better time than now, the minister pledged that the opportunities presented to the youths of Sierra Leone would be used judiciously to move the economy forward.
