In a quick update from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, it has been confirmed that security forces successfully repelled assailants, pushing them to the outskirts of the city, with ongoing engagement reported in the Jui area.
The majority of the city is reported to be calm and under the control of state security forces.
Earlier today, major detention centers, including the Pademba Road Prisons, were targeted in attacks. In the interest of safeguarding civilian lives, security forces were compelled to execute a tactical retreat, resulting in the overrun of the prisons. As a consequence, some prisoners were abducted, while others were released.
Contrary to speculation, the State Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) is not on fire and is not under siege. The Director-General of SLBC continues to carry out his responsibilities without any reported arrest.
The Ministry noted that security forces are actively progressing in their operation to apprehend those responsible for today’s attacks.
Despite the ongoing situation, a curfew remains in effect, and citizens are urged to stay indoors.
The government asserts that it maintains control and is effectively managing the current state of affairs.
