In a bid to eradicate corruption from Sierra Leone, the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., has vowed to intensify efforts and strengthen the fight against corrupt practices over the next five years.
Addressing the Management Team at a retreat on Thursday, July 20, 2023, Commissioner Kaifala emphasized the importance of effective planning and strategy development to ensure success in their mission.
Drawing an analogy to military leadership, the Commissioner likened the Management Team to Generals who must lead the charge against corruption.
He stressed that meticulous planning and execution are essential to secure a prosperous future for Sierra Leone and uphold the government’s agenda under His Excellency, Brig. (Rtd.) Dr Julius Maada Bio.
“The ACC is at the heart of governance activities in Sierra Leone, and we must ensure that our actions contribute to the nation’s progress,” Commissioner Kaifala declared. “Our goal is to achieve massive improvements, surpassing our accomplishments from the past five years.”
Highlighting the country’s current Transparency International Index ranking at 110, the Commissioner expressed his ambitious vision to achieve double-digit rankings within the next five years. This would signal significant progress in the country’s fight against corruption and enhance its global reputation.
During the three-day retreat at The Place Resort, Tokeh, in the Western Rural District, the Management Team engaged in intensive discussions and presentations.
Dr. Modupeh Taylor-Pearce, the Lead Facilitator for the Retreat, emphasized the importance of disciplined leadership in driving the ACC’s operations forward.
The retreat saw all Directors and Regional Managers from various departments and regional offices of the Commission presenting innovative approaches to combat corruption effectively in the coming years. The focus on embracing new methodologies and fostering a culture of openness and innovation underscored the determination to achieve lasting change in Sierra Leone’s fight against corruption.
As the retreat concluded on Saturday, 22nd July, 2023, the stage was set for a more formidable and relentless campaign against corruption in Sierra Leone, instilling hope and optimism among the citizens for a brighter and more transparent future.
